Almost a repeat of the Oban game - sadly, another day when the better team lost.
Despite losing Simon (to what looked liked a dislocated finger), Ciaran (sprained ankle) and Craig (illness) and having to use Liam as a make-shift centre forward, we had easily the best of possession and considerably more chances than a very good St Andrew's side. However, again, some bad luck in front of goal (Ben hit the post), some great shot stopping from both of the St Andrew's keepers, and a lack of composure in front of goal meant we lost out in what will now be the last competitive game of the season (not only that, but we lost to yet another 35-yard bullet shot - probably about the 7th or 8th time we have lost such a goal this season).
That said, all players should be proud of their efforts both today and this season - the improvement in some players this season has been remarkable.
It would be unfair to single anyone out today as it was really a team effort. However, it would be wrong to forget the contribution made by Jamie who has improved game-on-game since the start of the year and is showing the form that led to Aberdeen asking him to train with them last year, and, of course, Liam whose performance up front was excellent - had the bounce of the ball gone his way a couple of times, the wee man could easily have nicked a couple of goals.
The game may have changed in our favour had a couple of strong penalty appeals (one an absolute stone-waller) gone our way but as we haven't had a penalty all season, it was probably too much to expect for the decision to go our way today.
Whilst the home defeat against the aforementinoed Oban may be the one to cost us, there is still a slim chance of winning the league should Johnstone slip up in either of their two final league games. Even if they don't, we can still at least claim to be unofficial champions given that we beat them a couple of weeks back. We should also remember that, in the opinion of the coaches and the parents woh come to watch us every week, that, on our day, we are the best team in the league. With a couple of new players to come next season, hopefully we can continue to improve.
