Erskine 2

GSC took on 1st division Erskine in this Scottish Cup 3rd round replay at Williamwood High School. GSC played against the strong wind in the first half . Erskine had the best of the early play and seemed to adapt better to the conditions, they however were stunned after 22 minutes when their goalkeepers two footed challenge on GSC striker Elliot was punished by the award of a penalty. Top scorer Collinge converted the spot kick in his now customery manner 1-0. On the half hour mark GSC increased their lead after fine work down the left between Crawford and Elliot ended with Elliot's cross being turned into his own net by an Erskine defender. 2-0. GSC then seemed to think the job was done until 2 minutes from the interval when Erskine scoed from a short corner with the GSC defense caught napping. Half time 2-1. GSC with the wind at their backs took control early in the 2nd half but could not increase their lead. Then with 20 minutes remaining Erskine with what was one of their first attacks of the half were awarded a corner and again some sloppy defending allowed them to equalise. 2-2. Substitutes Kennedy and McBride were introduced in a bid to win the game. With 8 minutes remaining McBride laid the ball back to Andy Fraser and his cross come shot from all of 30 yards deceived the Erskine goalie and ended up in the net. 3-2. Erskine tried to get back on level terms but the GSC defense remained resolute. Final score 3-2. GSC travel to Fife in three weeks time to meet Burntisland shipyard in the 4th round of the Scottish Amateur Cup. Well done Lads.

In junior football, should all players be given the same amount of time on the pitch during a game, regardless of ability?
Yes, always. Getting kids involved is the most important thing.
Yes, unless it is an important game.
