Report

19th May 2012 Crookfur Pitch 1

Referee was good  KO 09:10

Southside v GSC Milan 1999

Weather was Ok, Bit of a stiff breeze but
nothing to ruin the game, but for May it
was freezing. Hats were on, Gloves were on and
a little central heating would have been appreciated.

We started with 13 players but due to an injury
to Callum B while warming up we couldn’t start with
our usual goalie and up stepped or stand in goalie
Kieran with Jonny starting on the bench.

Jonny had a tremendous spell while on the bench
as he played keepy up and must have done
about 100 easy...

Nice footwork young man

In Summary a game of 3 parts...

the first part from the 1st half Kick Off till
about 20 minutes in, we constantly attacked
and scored quickly and it didn’t look like they
had a chance, we had 4 or 5 good efforts but
didn’t take any,

then came part two  - we lost our way and fell
behind after 2 quick goals -1 a fluke cross and
the second was a lovely goal from Southside 3
quick passes which lead to a chip over the goalkeeper.

The second half  - part 3  we completely out played
them and after their best player scored the o.g. they
lost their heart and discipline , Dummy’s and toys
were thrown out the pram as they starting putting in some heavy tackles and kicking the ball away

With Callum hurting his wrist during the warm up
Kieran came into play on goals for us and done
excellently, coming of his line well to clear he had
a very good first half, the second half he could
have caught cold as I think he only touched the
ball twice and was blue by the time he came of
but its good to know that he has got his first game
as goalkeeper under his belt and done very well
and also knowing that he could not have been faulted
for any of the goals we conceded.

It was a very good start to the game with Jack G
having  his quietest half of the season up against
their best player (the right back no. 3) most of our
best attacking moves came down the left with Owain
probably having his best game of the season.

CP, Jack W, Graeme and Fraser were excellent
throughout the game, Jack W never stopped
attacking the whole game pushing down the right,
and deserving his two goals and almost earning a
brilliant hat trick with a glancing header from a corner
in the second half. CP was also doing the same on
the left, making some great passes and tackles
throughout the game and the simple pass out of
defence shows his continuing growing confidence.

We have had our 2 stalwarts commanding the
centre back positions for the last 4 games ( in which
we are undefeated – any coincidence?),they are
making sure that the tackle and balls were won early,
Graeme had a lovely little high ball brought down
trapped and passed in the blink of an eye, adding
that skill to the strength and tackling he is making
a strong bid to keep his place in an area of the
park that has a lot of competition.

Fraser has also come into that position and added
a very strong and sure presence with some strong
tackles and good passing out of the area, the two
are complementing each other very well and talking
to each other which is good.

Fraser also adds a very real threat when he comes
forward, scoring his second goal of the season in his
4th start, as he came forward to finish with a lovely
strike from close to the 18 yard area right into the
lower left hand side of the goal making it very
difficult for the goalie.

Jonny had a good game when he came on in the 2nd half
, he had a lot to contend with as we first played him at
Right half and he done well attacking down the right
wing and then playing Centre half beside Fraser
were he also had a good spell as well.

Robbie looks to be in top form coming with a surge
to the end of season strongly, he had 3 goals
today and made some good chances as well, he
is now starting to realise that he is big and
strong and is using that to get in front of defenders
and he is also holding the ball up well and trying to
release the ball to the wide players, another good
game for Robbie - he was even smiling at the end
of the game -  His dad will never believe it – but I saw him!!

Once again the midfield made the difference in the game
– when they were winning the ball and passing we were
on top – when they lost the shape in the 2nd part of the
play the team didn’t play – Todd, Owain, Connor and
Callum worked hard while Jack G should have been
helping and wasn’t , he had let his head go down
especially after losing the two goals but after being
subbed and then being brought on a little later he
realised he did want to play and in that 2nd spell harried
hassled more like the Jack g we want to see and had a
couple of good efforts, and chasing the defenders down
and winning the ball lead to one of the goals,  but it
was the work ethic was the great part and that
made the difference to his game.

Callum was once again everywhere and had a few
chances to score and worked hard throughout the game.
Connor was involved heavily in midfield and played some
nice passes throughout the game trying to play football
all the way through the game and had a nice chance to
score but unselfishly passed to Robbie to allow him to
complete his hat trick.

Todd had a great game with some great tackling and
he spent his time wisely providing excellent support in
both defence and midfield and he was also heavily involved
getting the team playing football on the ground.

Man off the match has to go to Owain – he ran from
start to finish today, he defended well, had some
good efforts on goal, he passed and ran and deservedly
got a very brave goal at the back post, putting his head
where only the daft or in this case the brave do – well
done and well deserved however special mention has
to go to Jack W who also put in a fantastic shift.

Finally the parents..., I can only apologise to the mums
of CP and Graeme for my little outburst of very poor
language and I will try to control it a little better but
won’t promise!

I would also like to comment on Robert’s great footwork
out on the touch line – you can see where Jonny gets it.

Thanks again to the parents for the help with the Nets, and we can look forward to the last game of the seaon and then maybe a lie in the following week!!
